It’s a real pleasure to bring this story to the Lynchpin Blog.
Ocean Vital Signs, Alanna Mitchel, You Tube
Alanna Mitchell was fundamentally important in the founding of Lynchpin. Alanna launched her award winning book, Sea Sick, first in Australia. It so happened it was possible to encourage her to come to Hobart where she met with various Marine Scientists. I was fortunate to spend time with Alanna at a time when I was grappling with what it might be possible to contribute toward the importance of the Climate Change message, and whether the arts might play a part in bringing important stories to the community in new ways. Time with her clinched the idea for Lynchpin.
It is wonderful to hear Alanna, continuing to bring her excellent mind and communication skills to continue to do just that, almost ten years on from when we met. Ever more urgent. Thanks, Alanna, for your efforts.
Please visit Alanna Mitchell’s website and read more.
Alanna Mitchell is not a scientist, or an actor – but you can find her on stage in Sea Sick, detailing what’s she’s learned about the health of the world’s oceans.
In 2008, the Canadian journalist published a book of the same name, describing the oceans as ‘warm, breathless and sour’.
Now, she’s adapted it in to a one-woman show – a unique piece of theatre that grapples with our very existence.
